Why Don't You Make the Twins Your "Girlfriend" Together? V1 Prologue
Prologue
It was a holiday afternoon, and to commemorate the start of our relationship, we found ourselves at an arcade in front of the station, ready to take some pictures in a photo booth.
“Sakuto-kun, which machine do you think is best?”
“Hmm… To be honest, I don’t really know anything about these.”
“Well then, I’m not used to this either, but please leave it to me.”
The one who spoke, shyly placing a hand on the right arm of Takayashiki Sakuto—my arm—was Usami Chikage.
Her skin was as white as powdered snow, her pale pink lips as fresh and succulent as fruit. She keeps the hair on her left side tied back with a ribbon, revealing a small, white ear that I find adorable, though she rarely shows it. She’s probably too embarrassed to let people see her in profile. She always stands to my right, her large, round eyes peeking out at me from between her bangs.
But her neat and refined beauty isn’t her only asset; she also has an outstanding figure. She’s more developed than other girls her age, giving her a somewhat mature allure. That imbalance is a huge part of her charm, and it never fails to make my heart pound.
I’d never dreamed that the day would come when I’d be dating a girl as wonderful as her.
“…? What is it?”
“Ah, no… It’s just, I still can’t quite believe this is real.”
“Fufu, me neither.”
At school, Chikage usually keeps others at a distance with a dignified expression, but right now, her cheeks were flushed as she offered me a gentle smile.
“Being with you like this… it makes me so happy.”
“No, that’s not what I meant—Whoa…?!”
“What’s this, what’s this~? What were you two talking about, hmm?”
The girl who chimed in, clinging to my left arm, was Usami Hikari.
“Th-That I still can’t believe it…”
“…? You mean that we’re all dating?” Hikari asked, turning an innocent, radiant smile on me.
That vibrant cheerfulness and the way she shows her affection with her entire being—born from a pure, honest heart. She craves physical contact like a puppy fawning over its owner, and I constantly have to restrain myself from spoiling her too much.
And this innocent-looking girl, just like Chikage, has an incredible figure. The problem is, she’s completely oblivious to it, casually pressing and rubbing against me. It’s troubling in a completely different way. With no room to let my guard down, my heart is, as always, pounding nonstop.
To think that the day would come when I’d be dating another wonderful girl like her…
But… this isn’t a dream, is it…?
With my arms captured by two girls so beautiful they could have been pulled from a painting, the scene was exactly what it looked like: a guy with a beauty on each arm.
In other words, I, Takayashiki Sakuto, had gotten my first-ever girlfriend. Two of them.
Right, this is the best! I thought for a fleeting moment, before I started restlessly glancing around, terrified an acquaintance might spot me. I was honestly happy to have girlfriends, and I wanted to revel in the joy, maybe even get a little hyped up. But when it comes to having two of them, I couldn’t help but worry about what others would think.
Is this really okay? This situation, where I’m dating two girls at the same time…
“Hey, Hii-chan… I told you not to just suddenly jump on Sakuto-kun, didn’t I?”
“Fufun, you snooze, you lose~” Hikari chirped. “Sakuto-kun, I’ll get lonely if you only pay attention to Chii-chan, y’know~.”
As she spoke, she gave my left arm a tight squeeze.
“Um, Hikari, you’re a little too close…”
“That’s right, Hii-chan. You’re making Sakuto-kun uncomfortable,” Chikage admonished, even as her own grip on my right arm tightened. “Oh, look, there’s an interesting one over there. Why don’t we use that one?”
“Ah, the one that’s trending right now? That could be good,” Hikari agreed. “Sakuto-kun, shall we go with that one?”
“Y-Yeah…”
The machine Hikari chose was called ‘Photogray,’ which arranges four vertical shots like a 4-koma manga. It didn’t have the feature some call ‘four-hundred-yen plastic surgery’ that digitally enhances your face. Instead, as they explained to me, its simplicity and rustic feel were what made it so good, giving the photos a stylish look that made it popular.
First frame. I was in the center, with Hikari and Chikage on either side of me, their arms squeezing mine tightly. The image was projected on the front display.
The girls had the exact same face, but that wasn’t some special effect. It was only natural, of course, since they’re beautiful twin sisters.
However, even as twins, their different natures meant they wore different expressions. The older sister, Hikari, had her usual beaming smile. The younger sister, Chikage, seemed nervous, her cheeks still flushed a deep crimson.
The fifteen-minute gap between their births seemed to have defined their personalities, shaped by the environments they grew up in. Their speech, their way of thinking, and even their individual charms were all different.
But in this place, at this moment, what they were thinking was terrifyingly in sync. And that was:
We’re both madly in love with Sakuto-kun.
“Sakuto-kun, I feel like you’re leaning a little too close to Hii-chan,” Chikage said, her expression more sullen than before as she tugged on my right arm with a sharp squeeze.
“No, that’s just because Hikari is pulling…”
“Please move closer to me. Don’t hold back; now’s your only chance.”
“O-Okay…”
I reluctantly started to lean over, only for my opposite arm to be yanked with an even stronger pull.
“Sakuto-kun, you’re too close to Chii-chan, you know? C’mere.” In contrast to Chikage, Hikari’s expression was bright, her tone teasing and mischievous.
“No, no, I’m pretty much right in the middle now, aren’t I…?”
“Nuh-uh, I want you to lean more my way. Um… like, ostentatiously?”
“O-Okay…”
As I once again reluctantly tried to lean over ostentatiously, this time Chikage wasn’t having it.
“Hey, Hii-chan… we decided you can’t monopolize Sakuto-kun, right?”
“You’re one to talk, Chii-chan.”
While Chikage’s brows furrowed in frustration, Hikari stood her ground with a smile that screamed, ‘I’ve got this in the bag.’ You could almost see their spirit animals appearing behind them—not a dragon and a tiger, but a hedgehog and a stoat.
While the twins were bickering, my face was beet red. I was panicking, unsure of where to even look. The thing is, even before we’d stepped into this tiny, private booth, it had been a constant squeeze-fest. And what’s more, it was only getting worse.
They were fighting over me. The fuse of a sisterly squabble was about to be lit. This was a grave situation. As their boyfriend, I knew I had to do something.
I knew that.
And yet… they’re so soft.
If you were to plot this situation on a graph, the twin sisters’ “Argument (in seconds)” and “Breast Softness (in Newtons)” would be directly proportional, a straight line extending endlessly upward and to the right from the origin.
And so, I thought:
This is bad. Really bad. My reasoning is about to get blown away.
Just as my primal instincts were about to surface, my consciousness finally checked out—
──And so.
Looking at me, Sakuto, you’d see a completely average, harmless high school student. In other words, a ‘mob character.’
I’d passed the entrance exam for Arisuyama Academy Private High School and enrolled this past April. For the month and a half that followed, I was just a background character who never basked in the limelight. I had no friends and had completely blended into the scenery, like a piece of classroom furniture.
This, however, was exactly what I wanted. My personal motto was ‘the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.’ As a result, my classmates regarded me as nothing more than “that guy with the weird last name,” and I was thoroughly enjoying my smooth-sailing life as a background character.
──However.
By some twist of fate, I ended up dating these beautiful twin sisters at the same time.
──My consciousness returned.
Watching the two of them still arguing, I was struck by a sudden sense of mission. What I needed to do right here, right now, wasn’t to regret the past. It was to resolve the problem unfolding inside this photo booth. I had to stop this sisterly quarrel and, on top of that, establish my own position.
“──Alright. Then let’s do this.”
First, I pulled my arms out from between the twins, escaping the restraints of their softness. This would allow for calmer situational judgment. A slight, lingering reluctance remained, but I told myself it couldn’t be helped.
Next, I intertwined their now-empty arms, making them link up with each other. With that, I succeeded in making the two who had been fighting just moments ago look like a pair of close twin sisters.
Furthermore, I stood behind them. Then, from between their two faces, I stuck my own out, just on the borderline of being visible.
And just like that, what do you know?
I had succeeded in creating the impression of being an ‘afterthought,’ someone who had just been brought along by the friendly twin sisters.
With this, all problems were solved. I let out a sigh of relief and wore a satisfied smile.
“See? This is good, right? Alright, you two, look at the lens…”
All that was left was to wait for the camera’s shutter to automatically go off—
““This is wroooooooo———ng!!!””
──Apparently, this was wrong.
For the time being, the camera’s shutter went off right at the “wrooo” part of their synchronized shout. We thought about retaking it, but it turned out to be amusing in its own way, and so it was kept as the memorable first frame of our ‘Started Dating Commemorative Photo.’
As for the rest—
‘Sakuto’s face gets suddenly close to Hikari’s’
‘Sakuto gives Chikage a princess carry’
‘In the end, the three of them get lovey-dovey’
──those were the remaining three shots.
Looking at the photo strip, I clutched my head. What would happen if, by some mistake, this got out?
(Is it really okay for me to have two girlfriends…? It’s a bad idea, which is why we’re keeping it a secret, but…)
I glanced over at the twin sisters.
“Turned out great, didn’t it!” Hikari said. “Rather than the four stages of emotion, it’s more like ‘anger-glee-love-and-a-heart-throb,’ I guess?”
“Mmm… Hii-chan’s might be cuter… I’m so jealous, I wanna take another one…” Chikage murmured.
“I’m super jealous of Chii-chan’s, too. A princess carry really is the dream, you know—”
Watching the twin sisters enviously praise each other, a smile slipped onto my face.
(…Ah, what the heck.)
Normally, you should be open and honest about a relationship.
But having a secret you can’t tell anyone… that might just be surprisingly fun.
──And so.
Sakuto, Hikari, and Chikage—the three of us started dating. But to make clear how it all came to this, we must go back in time, to a point just before I got involved with these twin sisters.
It was the season of fresh greenery. The cherry blossoms had scattered, and on an afternoon where new green leaves were budding, the results of the midterm exams were posted in the hallway—
